Melissa McCarthy proved once again she’s the queen of comedy at the box office this week, continuing her hot streak with director Paul Feig.
The first place film this week is Spy, which made $30 million in its first three days. That the McCarthy vehicle finished in this spot isn’t surprising, but the amount of money it brought in is. Going into the weekend, early tracking suggested the action/comedy would bring in around $43 million, a projection that proved to be way off. Despite a strong critical reception (read our review), audiences weren’t too keen on rushing out to the theater to support it.
